How to get your Holiday Glow: Laser Facial Treatments

What is a Laser Facial Treatment?

A laser facial treatment is a skin resurfacing procedure using a specially designed laser to improve the appearance of your skin and correct minor facial irregularities.

A laser is a controlled, pulsating beam of light.  Two basic types of lasers can be used during a facial treatment: an ablative laser or a non-ablative laser.

Ablative lasers use rapid pulses of high-intensity light to remove the damaged upper layers of your skin, giving your skin a tighter, firmer appearance while removing wrinkles, improving texture, and correcting pigmentation problems.

Less invasive than their ablative cousins, non-ablative lasers work by stimulating collagen growth and tightening the underlying skin.  Although non-ablative laser resurfacing requires less recovery time, it's less effective than treatments using the ablative.

Are you a Good Candidate for Receiving Laser Facial Treatments?

If you’re in good health and looking for a way to improve and rejuvenate the appearance of your facial skin, this cosmetic procedure may be right for you.

Laser Skin Treatments Can:

  • Decrease the appearance of facial lines
  • Improve skin tone
  • Help correct sun damage
  • Decrease the visibility of acne or chickenpox scars
  • Lessen blotchiness or discoloration
  • Address wrinkling around the eyes and mouth
  • Eliminate certain pre-cancerous skin growths
  • Smooth forehead lines
  • Reduce or eliminate liver spots
  • Remove freckles
  • Tighten non-responsive skin after a facelift
  • Help with enlarged oil glands on the nose

What is the preparation for your treatment?

Avoid excessive sun exposure and any type of tanning. Also, avoid the use of Retin-A one week prior to treatment.

What should you expect from treatment?

The treatment can be performed in the office and typically takes about 30 minutes depending on the area(s) treated.  You can resume your typical activity the next day.

How do you care for your Laser Facial treatment?

Daily cleansing of the area with mild soap and gently pat dry, then apply a soothing moisturizer to the skin. Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning for one week after your treatment. Sunscreen of SPF 30 is recommended. If you have this treatment to remove brown spots I will recommend prescription topical color correction (bleaching cream) and sunscreen after the procedure.
