About Dermaplaning

Procedure Technique
Dermaplane treatments are performed in our office as an outpatient procedure. After the skin is cleaned, the procedure will begin with a careful skimming of the surface of the skin with a facial blade. The technician will make several passes over different parts of the skin until the needed areas have been evenly treated. This scraping process removes dirt, oil, fine facial hair, dead skin, and other surface-level issues that have collected on the skin. The procedure time will vary, depending on whether a portion or the entire face is being treated. During your consultation, we will let you know what to expect during the dermaplaning process.

How much does dermaplaning cost?
Dermaplaning, if performed alone, is an affordable skin rejuvenation treatment that can be applied as often as needed. If it is combined with another skin treatment, the cost will be included with the additional procedure.
Does it hurt?
Dermaplaning does not hurt and it typically does not lead to discomfort during the treatment process. It is a delicate, gently procedure that involves light scraping to remove surface skin cells and the "peach fuzz" hair we see when we look in the mirror. This treatment gently scrapes away damaged skin for a smoother, healthier rejuvenated appearance.

Will my hair grow back thicker?
No. This is actually a myth. Dermaplaning, when performed correctly, does not interfere with the natural hair production process. The face is not being "shaved" but rather, it is being "scraped". It will create a softer, smoother feel until your natural hair grows back. When it grows back, it will appear the same as it did before the treatment.
How often should I get dermaplaning?
During your treatment session, we will get to know your skin better and will recommend timing for follow-up appointments. We generally recommend that you receive a dermaplaning treatment about every 4 – 6 weeks to maintain optimal results.
What to Expect
Following your dermaplaning treatment, you may find your face to be slightly red and sensitive. These are normal side effects that will begin to subside in a matter of hours. If your dermaplaning procedure is taking place with another treatment, such as a facial or peel, we will explain what you can expect after the treatment has concluded. Patients should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun because the skin will be very sensitive in the days after the treatment. Expect to see results quickly since dermaplaning reveals smoother, softer skin right away. In the interest of protecting your newly revealed skin, the technician will discuss a recommended skin care routine with you, including the regular application of sunscreen.
